"In 1 Kings 18, Ahab refers to Elijah as the “troubler of Israel”. The story is similar today – God speaks but few people choose to listen. The LORD offers His Word, and through the ebb and flow of our lives He attempts to gain our attention. But the power of God’s Holy Word is critical, and often forgotten. In the days of Elijah, God spoke through the prophets.
Many true prophets were running for their lives because of the hellbent Queen Jezebel. Jezebel and her false prophets worshipped the god Baal and his consort, Asherah. Baal was an ancient Canaanite god that many had chosen to worship. It was a religion of selfish ambition that led people away from God. Elijah called for a prophetic showdown. Who would be shown as the real prophet of the One, True, Living God?
