"The ancient priests of Israel represented the people to God, as well as God to the people. This is something that we should learn to understand while reading the Old Testament because Jesus Christ is the High Priest of the New Covenant (HEBREWS 8 ). The priesthood could never truly fulfill the law of God, they had to sacrifice animals to cleanse their sins, for “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” (HEBREWS
9:22). But our High Priest, Jesus Christ, shed His blood for our sins once and for all (1 PETER 3:18; ROMANS 6:10; HEBREWS 10:10). By His blood we are clothed in His righteousness.
