"The church of Thessalonica was called to live in faithfulness to God. Their unique calling was being made difficult through persecution and was being threatened by strange teaching. Like the church in Philippi, Christians in Thessalonica were being tempted to move off the path of faith in Christ. When we don’t understand or remember the basis for our faith, the principal realities of Christ, we will fall short. 2 Thessalonians is Paul's second letter designed to confront the lies with the truth. Paul encourages them by reminding them about the end times, first in chapter 1, “God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with His powerful angels” (2 THESS. 1:6-7). Then again in
chapter 2, ""Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition..."" (2 THESS. 2:3).
