"The apostle John was one of the original 12 disciples of Jesus: the son of Zebedee, brother of James, and the writer of five books of the Bible, a witness to Jesus before it was revealed that Jesus was the Christ. Present at the crucifixion and transfiguration of Jesus, John took responsibility for Jesus’ mother, and visited the empty tomb at the urging of Jesus’ women followers. He experienced Jesus’ resurrection and watched as He ascended into heaven. Afterwards, John was involved in spreading the Gospel and growing the early Church. Later, we share in John’s visions in the book of Revelation, as He sees the Christ as He is now. In 2 John, he writes to the elect lady who handles an early church group in her home, to encourage and warn her. Through John, we have amazing early witness to the
importance of women to God. In a culture that undervalued and often mistreated women, God holds no such grudge against His daughters.
