"The people living in the Promised Land created a major mess for themselves and made it worse when they attempted to fix it on their own. In fact, we see many examples in the book of Judges of them doing exactly what the words of God told them not to do. By the time we get to Judges 21, we’re at the pinnacle of a major problem. Their culture has produced great evil, and their solutions to that evil also created more evil. If only the Israelites had kept up the practice of Moses, which was going to God for every trouble and issue. Though we live in a different day and age, Judges 21 shows us how our flawed ways are not always obvious or apparent, they can be small and subtle. This is how sin so easily infects our lives: It can seem like a good idea at the time! This is why we need to keep the lines of communication open with God. We need to be reading His Word, thinking on it, and praying on it in our lives. When we do fall, the amazing truth of Christ is always present, we can come to God, repent, and receive forgiveness.

The Failure; 1 Samuel 13-16
