"The book of Job may be the earliest composed book of the Bible, and it is set during the time of the patriarchs when wealth and success were measured in ownership of livestock and land. The Hebrew title for this book is Iyyob and can have two possible meanings: 1) if derived from the Hebrew word for “persecution” then it means “Persecuted One”; 2) and, more likely, if it comes from the Arabic word, meaning, “to come back” or, “repent” then it may be defined as, “Repentant One.” Both of these meanings are certainly relevant. The book of Job begins with a discussion that Job knows nothing about. Satan is prompted to test Job when God asks if he has seen and considered God’s servant Job. The book shows us the consequences of Satan’s work when Job’s possessions are handed into Satan’s authority: He loses everything. When Job is still faithful to God, the trials intensify: Job loses his sons and daughters. It is a horrible journey. Finally, his friends come to him and are so shocked at his fall that they do not talk for 7 days.Bible Discovery TV - The Daily Show (2023) -April 2023.
