"In our sinful human nature, it is easy to blame or misunderstand God. We can even thank God wrongly, or for the wrong things. This is demonstrated by the foreign army invading Judah in the time of the prophet Isaiah. Though they were given military success by God as a consequence for Judah’s sinfulness, they were wrong in their belief about Judah’s God. The Rabshakeh, an appointed spokesman for the king of Assyria, claimed that in destroying the idols and high places of Judah that Hezekiah had dishonored God, and that God was now upset with Hezekiah and the people. Though the current physical reality could have validated the Assyrians' claim, their rationale was not based on God, and they would eventually reap the consequences for their own sin. How often do we misunderstand God when life seems to be going our own way? Let's lean on God’s Word to inform us of who He is and how He works, and not simply rely on our own feelings or life circumstances only.
