"Matthew is the first of the four gospels that greets us as we move into the New Testament. Though Matthew likely wasn’t the first gospel that was written, it does have a very strong connection to the Old Testament and so makes good sense to come first. Matthew purposefully presents the life of Jesus as fulfilling the prophecies of the Messiah, the promised King of the Old Testament. This gospel will teach us about Christ and challenge the way that we see and apply the Old Testament prophecies of God. Right
off the bat, Matthew greets us with a lineage, tracing Jesus’ line back to the Davidic covenant and the Abrahamic covenant. “The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham” (MATTHEW 1:1). Using a style of the time, Matthew arranges this genealogy of Christ into 14’s to emphasize Jesus’ connection to David. It’s a demonstration of how Matthew will teach us in both obvious and more subtle ways.

Others; Matthew 7-9
