Prayer is the way we speak and listen to God. This is the short definition. Prayer is so much more to those in Church authority. It is a habitual effort of the heart to submit our lives to God; and pours out of our humility and weakness. It is like a knight kneeling before his King, or like a servant acknowledging His Master. We were born into sin, and all of us have sinned, and that means we need to be set free from sin. As Christians, we have made the decision based on our faith,
believing with all our heart that Jesus Christ came and gave His life to pay the cost of our sins, and have confessed that Jesus is LORD. This means that we have chosen to pattern our life after His—we follow Him. Prayer humbles our hearts to help us confront our deepest and darkest sins, to combat our pride and arrogance. In John 17, the Bible has recorded an amazing prayer that Jesus prays, as a Man without sin. It is through this prayer that we hear Jesus talk to God the Father,
and learn how to pray ourselves. This is important for us to study and meditate on.
