The Spirit of the Gospel; Acts 9-10

The story of Cornelius’ conversion and Peter’s failure to grasp the significance of the new covenant is just fascinating. God is so patient with us. He slowly reveals the truth to us at a pace we can understand. Acts 10 is a great example of this. Peter did not want to visit Cornelius let alone eat with him because it was forbidden for a Jewish man to associate with or visit a foreigner, and especially eat unclean food. But God showed Peter that he must not call any person common
or unclean, “Now I really understand that God doesn’t show favoritism, but in every nation the person who fears Him and does righteousness is acceptable to Him” (ACTS 10:34-35). Peter continues to preach the gospel to Cornelius, and the Holy Spirit descends upon him. The circumcised believers who came with Peter were blown away because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out on the Gentiles, too. They were living and witnessing what Jesus had preached.
Peter, then, baptized Cornelius shortly after for the forgiveness of sins (ACTS 2:38).

Light; John 7-8
