"What does it mean to be doomed by man and loved by God? That is the life David, the future king of Israel, had to live through. Anointed to be king, yet enemy of the crown. Jonathan had spoken to his father Saul about David and tried to help him deal with his jealousy of David. It worked for a time, but that time was limited. Like Cain and Abel, Saul wanted David dead. This is interesting because Saul was called by God to confront the Philistines, but he was so
obsessive, envious, and filled with rage against David that he lost sight of his calling. David, on the other hand, obeyed the LORD and repented when he was supposed to, and Saul hated him for it. Why is God showing us this? The LORD wants each of us to know about our own human weaknesses to sin. We must get ourselves under God’s control, through the power of His Spirit, before we can effectively do the work of God.
