"The Bible tells us that Solomon was an amazing architect. Everything he built was magnificent! The work that he did throughout the kingdom of Israel was unprecedented. Solomon was an extravagant king. But extravagance is not the way to gain the favour of God. There is nothing wrong with building a beautiful world. Remember that Moses was told by the LORD to build the Tabernacle and the elements of the kingdom with beauty and profound meaning. But when it
came to the beauty of the Temple, God’s incomparable holiness would soon be forgotten. Taking pride in its look would become the purpose of the building––rather than worship God, they spoke idle words in God’s name. In other words, the Temple’s beauty would become a point of pride, a place where they used God’s name in vain for the sake of self-worship. It would be their downfall. The ending of Solomon was very different than the ending of Moses. And as King David left the
work of Psalms behind as his legacy, Solomon leaves the work of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes.
