When I was growing up, my family was involved deeply in the church. We were often taught about the will of God. I remember doing a discipleship session and the Youth pastor talking about the will of God and how important it was. The instruction was good. It taught me that the pursuit of pleasure was not the focus of a Christian’s life, but the pursuit of God was. Everything we did pointed to that idea. At the end of the book of Ecclesiastes, the overwhelming message from Solomon is the same. Verse 13 explains it well, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all” (ECCLESIAST E S 1 2 : 1 3 ). At the end of our life, the end of everything here on earth, we have this one concluding element from the wisest man who ever lived: Fear God and keep His commandments.
