Just because we think we’re righteous, doesn’t mean we are. What does it mean to truly serve
God? In Isaiah 58, we see that God was very angry with His people. They were saying that
they were serving God, and they were continuing their religious practices while at the same
time engaging in evil actions that went against God’s laws. These actions exposed their hearts.
They wanted to serve God their way, not His way. We see, in Isaiah 58, God calling the people
out for completely missing the point. Following God is not just about going through religious
motions, it’s about serving God with our whole hearts, following Him in His love for people. In
this case, that meant that the people had to stop neglecting and taking advantage of those in
desperate need.

Emptiness; Jeremiah 7-9
