Jerusalem Falls; Jeremiah 38-40

The last city of Judah was under the leadership of King Zedekiah when it fell to Babylon. Through Jeremiah, God had spoken to His people and their leaders about how to surrender but they refused. Jeremiah was in prison during the besiegement and fall of Jerusalem, but he was eventually released through an order given by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. Jeremiah was given the freedom to choose his next steps, and he chose to live among the people. I find it so interesting that it was the enemy who released Jeremiah. How they treated him was important for everyone to see, it contrasted sharply to how he had been treated by the king and leaders
of Judah. Jeremiah was God’s called servant, and the LORD honoured him in the time of Jerusalem’s great failure. Even though Jeremiah had been imprisoned, the LORD delivered him from the people of God, through the men of Babylon.
