The truth emerges about a man who was paralyzed and let down through the roof by his friends, right in front of Jesus. This touching story is found in the book of Mark, the first gospel that was written and published. Mark’s Gospel was written to the Romans who were steeped in their Roman culture. Mark expresses much in his words with no meandering. He certainly does not waste time, everything happens immediately! In chapter 2 we are already involved in the ministry of Jesus Christ. The message of Jesus was so important that Mark wrote Jesus’ backstory quickly,
leaving out many of the details. He wanted to get the essentials of the story published for the Church to hear. In the early Church, the writings of Paul the apostle had already been published and distributed as Mark was being written. Teaching letters were important to help people understand what Jesus Christ said and communicate authoritatively over vast distances. Back to today’s account of the lame man whose friends manage to get him right in front of Jesus, it is one
of the more fascinating gospel accounts.
