Celebrations; Leviticus 23-25
Season 2, Episode 6

God knew when He proclaimed His law to the people of Israel that He would also set aside sacred feasts and celebrations to not only help them remember His acts of creation, protection, deliverance, and provision, but to also to give them a rest from their everyday lives. Our study today of Leviticus 23 includes the feasts the LORD had set aside as holy days. It is interesting to note, here, that the expression “holy convocations” or “sacred assemblies” is mentioned 11 times in chapter 23 alone. One of the first feasts featured on this list is the Sabbath. It is the only holy day that is commanded in the Ten Commandments and the only command that is grounded in creation (EXODUS 20:11). The Hebrew verb shavath means, “to rest or to cease,” and is the root on which the English word “Sabbath” was formed. Remember that Jesus said He is “Lord of the Sabbath” (MATTHEW 12:8), and that “it is lawful to do what is good on the
Sabbath” (MATTHEW 12:12).

The Camp; Numbers 1-3
The way in which the tribes of Israel were organized around the tent Tabernacle––the center of the camp—was very strategic.
