As Moses and the children of Israel wandered through the wilderness they understood that the presence of the LORD God was costly. offerings were directed and commanded by God to be given before the LORD would ever come into their presence. There was a personal and communal cost to the presence of God. on this side of the cross, we can enjoy the presence of the LORD when we come to Jesus Christ and choose to follow Him as Lord. As the Lord of our life, God's Holy Spirit comes into our heart and begins to change the way we live. Reading the Bible we see the physical cost to the presence of the LORD and we ultimately see how that Jesus Christ paid that cost, and through His atonement we receive the glory of the LORD by faith (JoHN 17:22-24, RoMANS 8:30, 1 P E T E R 1 : 7 ). The presence of God is real and effective when we come to Christ and give Him our lives to follow Him ( 2 CoRINTHIANS 4:17, 1 P E T E R 5 : 1 0 ) . Reading the way God originally spoke to the ancient people of Israel helps us understand the true meaning of the LORD's presence.
