David was a man of God, anointed by God as king, and followed the will of God throughout his life. The Bible tells us that David was a man after God’s own heart. That doesn’t mean that he was perfect, indeed, he made many mistakes! But David knew how to follow the LORD. This is something I need to learn. How can we successfully follow the LORD? David was tested
several times before he was named king of Israel. It is as if God needed to let David run through many trials, traps, and tricks to prepare him for governing ancient Israel. In 1 Samuel 26, we discover the temptations which surrounded David and his ability to overcome them. We see that David had a second chance to destroy King Saul, the one who was attempting to kill him! But David saw something else that even Saul did not. David understood that Saul had been anointed by Samuel, he was God’s king. “The LORD forbid that I should stretch out my hand against the LORD’s anointed” ( 1 SAMUEL 26:11). It would be God who would switch the kingly leadership, not David himself.
