Season 4, Episode 1

King Saul was a failing king. His jealousy of David was raging out of control. David’s victory against Goliath the Philistine had earned him respect and position in the Israelite military. Then his military victories had earned him renown. The women of Israel sang, “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands!” Saul could not handle it. He allowed his jealousy to
turn into paranoia and action. He pursued David to kill him, he did not want David to become the next king. Saul’s plan was for his son Jonathan to be the next king, but Saul failed to realize that Israel wasn’t his own kingdom, it was God’s. David would have a few opportunities to kill Saul, yet he withheld each time. He even refused to let his men do it, claiming that killing God’s
anointed king would only bring guilt. Eventually, Saul would be forced to a place of terrible decision, and in 1 Samuel 31 we witness his tragic end.

The House of God; 2 Samuel 5-7
In today’s reading we learn about David’s desire to build a Temple. It’s interesting to me that in modern day Israel, almost everything has been restored except for the Temple.
