In the ancient world, the nation of Israel was unique. In fact, it is still unique in today’s world. Israel as a country, exists for the first time in about 2000 years. Many Christians love Israel because they appreciate Biblical history and they understand that God still has a plan for the nation. When Israel first became an official nation under the leadership of Moses, God gave rules and regulations to set them apart. Many of the elements of Israelite culture had parallels in other cultures of their day, but God added His own spin, morality and emphasis. God ordained priests with specific instructions on how to worship differently. They knew God as the one true God, creator of all things, merciful and generous. All of these beliefs would have made them stand out, as would their belief in sin – the reason for evil and suffering and the condition of mankind. God created a system for ancient Israel that displayed His truth to them and to all nations who saw them.
