Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God. We believe that He came to earth miraculously through the Holy Spirit’s plan for a virgin named Mary. Our religiously Jewish friends do not believe that. To them, Jesus was an imposter Christ, claiming the image of God instead of actually being God. This is why Jewish Christians are considered to be fallen by Judaism; they have believed the imposter, fallen for a false Christ.
This separation is also reflected in the Scriptures of Judaism and Christianity. The Jewish Bible holds only to the Old Testament as sacred. The Christian Bible embraces the New Testament with its 27 books as an addition to the Old Testament’s 39 books. In our reading of the Old Testament today, we see the offering of the scapegoat. On the Day of Atonement a priest would sacrifice one goat and release another who would symbolically carry off the sins of Israel, never to return them again. For us Christians there is deep symbolism of Christ in this image. Jesus Christ fulfilled this with His work on the cross.
