The International Council on Biblical Inerrancy (ICBI, 1979 - 1982) declared essential truths related to Genesis 1-11 in their Statement on Inerrancy‚ and Statement on Hermeneutics.‚
Most of the 300+ signers of the statement on inerrancy - many of the greatest evangelical leaders and scholars at the time - accepted the idea of millions of years. They worded a couple of points in those two ICBI Statements in a way that opened a door to this old-earth compromise.
Dr. Mortenson examines both statements and the writings of some of the most prominent leaders in the ICBI to show how, in spite of sincere intentions to the contrary, these brothers violated their own ICBI principles thereby undermining the inerrancy and authority of Scripture.
