This lecture begins by looking at several affirmations and denials in two important documents on inerrancy and hermeneutics produced by the International Council on Biblical Inerrancy. These statements are very relevant to the question of the controversies in the church about creation, evolution, and the age of the creation. Most of the 300 signatories of those two documents accept the idea of millions of years of earth and cosmic history. Using quotes from leading inerrantists, Dr. Mortenson shows how and why these old-earth proponents are seriously inconsistent by affirming these excellent documents while at the same time accepting the millions of years. Their old-earth inconsistency has unintentionally undermined the authority of Scripture in the church.
