Jerusalem was not the place where Jesus Christ was best protected. In fact, many so-called spiritual people there wanted Him dead. Jesus knew this and told His disciples that He was going anyway. One of the things Jesus had to do was raise Lazarus from the dead, because he had been sick. The disciples were well-aware of the potential danger to come. It was Thomas who said, “Let us also go, that we may die with Him!” Thomas often gets negative press and the nickname “Doubting Thomas” because of his questioning of Christ after His resurrection, but listen carefully to this man. When we begin to hear what Thomas says, we identify with him. Thomas was a lot like us today, he knew the facts and was still skeptical, yet followed Christ. We should remember that the Holy Spirit still heals and helps us, but we should use the Bible to hear how God speaks to us and heals us.
