The LORD continues to speak through the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah is often called the royal prophet because he was related to the Kings of Judah. This prestige likely gave him a wide audience, and perhaps lent an edge of sharpness to his prophecies. Though Isaiah lived about 750 years before Christ, he often spoke of the events surrounding the Day of the LORD. It is an interesting study to look at the names that appear in Isaiah, and their meanings. For example, in Isaiah 22:20 the Word of God says that Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, will take authority because God will give it to him in His unique day, the Day of the LORD. Eliakim means “God sets up”. It seems a reminder to us that it is God who sets up the true transference of authority.
