David's Commands; 1 Kings 1-4
Season 4, Episode 8

King David gives final instructions to his son Solomon who would take the throne. David focused on those who did well in his kingdom and those who did not. The first ten verses of 1 Kings 2 instruct Solomon how to succeed as king and give him permission to act against those who did not help David. This served to tie up any loose ends and aimed to solidify Solomon’s hold on
the throne. Sadly, we begin to see rather quickly that the golden age of Israel isn’t going to last long. There were only a few times in Israel’s history that the kings were good. Solomon may have successfully built up the economy and physical infrastructure of Israel, but there would be a dire cost. The nation would soon split in two: the northern ten tribes called Israel, and the southern
two tribes called Judah.
