"1 Chronicles 18 tells us that King David had a great deal of success against all the enemies of Israel. Chronicles not only gives us the broad details of these successes, it also lets us know about some of the riches that David was able to secure. Specifically, the Bible tells us that in his fight against Zobah David collected a mass quantity of bronze. This bronze became important because it is what Solomon later used to create the bronze articles for the Jerusalem Temple, including the great masterpieces of the basin and the two pillars. This is particularly interesting to me because it reminds me of Proverbs 13:22, “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.” David was preparing a different kind of inheritance. He was planning ahead for the work of God that would be his son Solomon’s to accomplish.
