Chapter 1 of the first book of the Bible is a display of days or “Yom” in the Hebrew language. As can be seen in Genesis, a day to the Hebrew mind begins in the evening and finishes the following day: about 24 hours. In the first year of our Discovery Guide we focused on Genesis 1:1-8. In the second year we covered Genesis 2:1-17, and this year we will study days 3-5 of the creation story found in Genesis 1:9-23. The LORD created the universe in perfect scientific order. He gave special attention to earth as the home of those who would bear His image. In those first two days, God separated light from darkness and formed land on the earth. This established timekeeping with the coming and the going of light, and set the stage for God’s continued creation on the earth. On the third day the LORD God formed the oceans, the fourth day saw the creation of plants and vegetation. Practically speaking, humanity’s home was being developed as a place of sustenance. Next, God began the amazing process of creating life that would inhabit His good creation.
