Season 8, Episode 4

When a king reigned over his nation, he was responsible for the direction of the kingdom and ultimately for the decisions and practices of his people. The king appointed officials to make daily decisions over domestic and external affairs, and any issues would make their way back to him. When Zedekiah was king over Judah, Judah was subject to the rule of Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon. However, Zedekiah rebelled against Babylon. This was a problem not only because Babylon was extremely capable of retaliation, but because the LORD had chosen Nebuchadnezzar to take control of the world and discipline Judah, at that time. According
to God’s Word through Jeremiah, Babylon was successful, and Zedekiah was forced by Nebuchadnezzar to watch the execution of his sons and then be blinded. Rebellion felt right to Zedekiah, but it was wrong in the eyes of God. Often times, learning what is right and wrong has very little to do with how we feel. It is based on God’s Word.
