God Is Always Right; Nahum 1-3

About 150 years after the prophet Jonah had reluctantly and bitterly preached to the Assyrians in Nineveh, the prophet Nahum is called to do the same. Though Nineveh had repented after Jonah’s message, they had apparently stopped following God. Now, like Jonah, Nahum had to let them know that they were going to die because of their sin. It’s important to note here that God speaks to people all over the world. While He certainly has a special relationship with Israel, He is not a cultural God, but rather the LORD of people from all cultures. God knows the future and the past, He knows every culture, language, situation, man, woman, and child, and He is involved in our present. The prophet says to the people of Nineveh, “Woe to the bloody city! It is full of lies and robbery. Its victim never departs” (NAHUM 3:1). The LORD never changes, but as time passes, cultures can choose to follow or reject Him.
