The LORD has people all around the world who know Him and seek His face. In our reading today, one of these people was Elisha, former assistant of the famous prophet Elijah who had been taken to God in the book of 2 Kings 2. Elisha is now operating as a prophet of God, a chosen man who is God’s witness; he hears from God, performs God’s miracles and speaks the truth. Elisha operated in northern Israel which had willingly
decided to go against the ways of God as outlined by the Law of Moses. The time was about 897 BC, and the 12th king of Israel was on his throne: Jehoram, one of the sons of Ahab. The nation of Moab rebelled against Israel and so, something had to be done. Jehoram called men from Israel along with his ally Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, to help him fight. Before they went out to war, Jehoshaphat, who was faithful to the LORD, decided to call on a prophet of God: Elisha.
