Prayer is talking to God. Very often, the concept of prayer gets over complicated, involves ritual, pagan gods, and many unbiblical practices. It is interesting then, that Jesus Christ’s response to His disciples’ question about prayer was recorded in the Bible. Matthew, chapter 6, begins with Jesus’ instructions on the attitudes that we should and should not have when we approach God in prayer. When our Saviour gives us instructions on addressing our Creator, we should listen! Jesus was not only concerned that we live rightly in the world, but that we have correct attitudes toward God. Both elements are necessary to a successful Christian life, and both are necessary to fulfill the great commission that Jesus gave to His disciples. It is recorded in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you…”
