It was called the Promised Land for a very good reason. The children of Israel were not just moving to a better place for their own comfort, they were heading to a new homeland where God could demonstrate His strength in the nation. This is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and they had never been a nation before. The way they treated each other in this community should reflect their God. Their responsibility to take care of each other is also very important. But what are the expectations of a nation who has God as their Lord? In today’s world, there are very few examples of that. But one of the closest is the United States of America. It is under 300 years old, and from the beginning of that nation they have inscribed “In God We Trust” on their money. However, the question is: Who is the “we” and what god are they talking about in that phrase?
