In Romans 11, Paul explains that God did not reject Israel, but Israel rejected God because of hardened hearts and unbelief in Christ Jesus. But he also stresses that they are not beyond recovery. God can graft Israel, the branches, back into the olive tree if they come by faith (ROM. 11:23-24). The olive tree, meaning true belief in God, not by works but by faith, starting with Abraham and growing through his descendants. Paul makes it clear that Israel is an enemy to the gospel, but beloved as the elect (ROM. 11:28-29). You may have heard the saying, “God is not finished with Israel yet!” Why, then, are so many Christians concerned with the inclusion of Israel in God’s plan? Since Israel rejected Jesus Christ as Messiah, why shouldn’t we reject them? It is unfortunate how many Christians have learned to hate the Jewish people. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are commanded to love everyone, even our enemies. Israel is no exception. We should pray for their full inclusion, not bask in their rejection.
