Even after about 3,900 years, Abraham is still well known. A recent Middle Eastern peace treaty was named after him: The Abraham Accords. Many people still know his name, and many others have taken religious meaning from him. It is important though, that we allow the Bible to be the rule of truth; that the story of Abraham’s life comes from the pages of Genesis. In Genesis 21, we learn about two sons that Abraham fathered with two different women: Ishmael and Isaac. The name Isaac means, “He made me laugh” which was less about the joy of having him, and more to do with the unusual case of Sarah having a child well after her childbearing years. In this strange-to-us story, Sarah gives her maid Hagar to Abraham to have a child for her. But instead of this bringing the family peace, pregnant Hagar tried to usurp Sarah’s role as wife. Thirteen years after the birth of Ishmael, the promised child Isaac, was born. Instead of fixing the deep seated tension between Hagar and Sarah, the birth of Isaac brought it to a head.

Dreams; Genesis 35-37
Dreams are images, emotions, and events that take place deep in our mind. When we sleep, we’re not preoccupied with the events happening around us, our minds are at rest. It’s interesting to think that only Adam and Eve experienced what sleep was like before sin entered the world.
