Season 4, Episode 18

"The most physically impressive part of a conquering war is to firmly take control of the enemy land. However, the most challenging and important part is then how to run the conquered land well. James 4 tells us that fights and wars come from the heart. Our battles come primarily from selfishness. As followers of Christ, it is our duty to avoid being selfish
with our lives. God, being greater than us, can help us overcome our bad behaviour, but we must be paying attention to His Word and our lives. We may never be perfect in this world, but with our obedience to God and with His help, we can make significant progress. Nehemiah’s God-given mission was to restore Jerusalem. To do this, Nehemiah had to
confront the people living there about their lives. Nehemiah 5:6 tells us that he spoke directly and firmly to those who were treating people unfairly and that they listened! This is a fascinating story letting us into the types of challenges that Nehemiah faced.

Numbering of the Levites; Nehemiah 11-13
"As we read through the Bible, it is interesting to note that the names of the Levites operating in God’s sanctuary are often recorded. This is true when the exiles returned to Jerusalem, of the original Levites after the Exodus, and more. This tells me that God pays special attention to those wh...

For Such a Time; Esther 1-4
"One of the challenges of being in exile is the very real danger of becoming a victim of hate. Hate is not something that should be natural to humans; it comes from our unchecked sin. In the book of Esther, we meet Hadassah, a young Jewish orphan who had been taken in and raised by her relative M...
