Without leadership in the communities, the Israelites were listening to the lies of false prophets and asking for blessings of rain from their idols. Zechariah told them to stop and ask the LORD for rain—all blessing and restoration would ultimately come from Him. As we all have, the people in Israel had fallen short of God’s glory. We are living in a really interesting time in relation to Israel. In the last seventy-six years, we’ve seen Israel become stronger and stronger as a nation. Still, the majority of modern Israel’s citizens do not recognize Jesus Christ as Messiah. There’s an antagonism towards Him, even though it’s modern Christians who have
played a large role in supporting and helping Israel. Zechariah mentions a latter rain in chapter 10 of his prophecy. What is interesting about this is the effect it has on the nation of Israel: “Ask the LORD for rain in the time of the latter rain. The LORD will make flashing clouds; He will give them showers of rain, grass in the field for everyone” (ZECHARIAH 10:1).
