Israel was no longer a family but a nation. Their core principles had been laid out for them by God through Moses, similar to what we would call a constitution. Now, in Deuteronomy, the people are getting ready to enter the land God had promised to their forefather Abraham hundreds of years earlier. At 120 years of age, Moses was still leading Israel and was still full of energy and ability. Nevertheless, his end of life was drawing near. In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses reiterates the laws of God or the constitution of Israel for the new generation of Israel about to take over the Promised Land. Remember that it has been forty years since the Israelites had been rescued from Egypt. The Hebrew title for Deuteronomy is Haddebarim, ""The Words,” taken from the opening phrase of the book in Deuteronomy 1:1, ""These are the words…” Deuteronomy will not only reform the law for Canaan, it will also record the last words and acts of Moses. We are a family-run international ministry with television, print and online programs designed to guide you through the Bible in one year.
