"When Jeremiah stood in the court of the LORD’s house and confronted the people of Jerusalem, they rebelled against him and his message. Pashhur, the priest and chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard about the things that Jeremiah had prophesied, and ordered that the prophet be beaten and put in stocks. The stocks were located at the Upper Benjamin Gate, the northern most prominent gate in the city of the upper Temple court, built by King Jotham(2 KINGS 15:45).Jeremiah was publicly tortured in the stocks at the high gate and looked down upon because he told God’s truth(JEREMIAH 20:2).When God called Jeremiah to be His prophet, He declared, “ ‘For you shall go to all to whom I send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of their faces, for I am with you to deliver you,’ says the LORD""(JEREMIAH 1:7-8).It is shocking the lengths we are willing to go to preserve our own lies and delusions. Only God can save us from ourselves. But we need to desire the truth.
