Solomon Builds the Temple; 1 Kings 5-8

Through Nathan the prophet, David was told by God that he would not be the one to build a house for Him, but that a son of David would build the Temple. The blood on David’s hands made a Davidic Temple inappropriate. The LORD did not need a Temple, in fact, He told David that He would build a house for David, even still He would allow David’s son to build a Temple. Once David’s son Solomon had his throne secure, he began preparations to build the
Temple including contacting David’s ally Hiram, king of Tyre. Tyre was an extremely successful and famous ancient city, so its inclusion in the Biblical account is an interesting one. As we look at 1 Kings 5, we read both Solomon’s letter to Hiram and Hiram’s response, and we will get to see the completion of David’s wishes long after he was put to rest.
