In today’s world we live in a culture that celebrates individualism. The on-going struggle seems to be the individual voice vs. the collective voice. Nevertheless, the truth is that there is a collective cost for sin. Even when we choose to follow Jesus Christ and we acknowledge Him as the LORD of our life, we are still living in communities that often do not follow God’s ways. There is a collective cost for sin in our cultures. This also brings up the concept of justice. We hear a lot of talk today about what justice is and how it should be pursued. We need to remember that justice is good, but God is the ultimate Judge and giver of justice. Though we often watch horrendous violations of justice happen, there will come an end to them. We have a good and powerful Judge who sees all. Ancient Israel had similar problems to us. Like all human cultures, they had justice issues. One of them happened in the time of King Saul. He was so committed to defending and building Israel that he violated the covenant Joshua had made with Gibeon. This meant the nation was facing consequences.

Solomon Builds the Temple; 1 Kings 5-8
Through Nathan the prophet, David was told by God that he would not be the one to build a house for Him, but that a son of David would build the Temple. The blood on David’s hands made a Davidic Temple inappropriate. The LORD did not need a Temple, in fact, He told David that He would build a hou...
