The word angel means messenger of God, and the name Gabriel means strong one of God. Gabriel was sent as God’s messenger to a young virgin named Mary to foretell the divine birth of the coming Christ. This pregnancy would come as a result of the Holy Spirit descending upon Mary. This was the greatest message ever announced by anyone, anywhere: God Himself pouring His Spirit into flesh and Jesus emerging into the human race; God’s holy blood mixed with unholy flesh. Only God could do this miraculous event! Luke was likely a Gentile; he wrote the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts. The apostle Paul identified Luke as a travel companion and as a medical doctor (COL. 4:14) . A lot has been written about how Luke focused on including accounts of Gentiles and societal outcasts. While most Scripture focuses on the Jewish people, Luke focused on the plan of God for all humanity, and so he wrote towards both a Jewish and a Gentile audience.
