"When we experience dark or devastating circumstances, as people who follow Jesus Christ as LORD, we wonder why? Why do we have so many problems? The answer is important, although simple. What we need to do is focus our attention on how God desires us to respond or react. David, the great king of ancient Israel, gives us the perfect example before he ever takes the throne. In 1 Samuel 30, David has lost everything, even his wives and sons. To make matters worse, it wasn’t only David’s loss but all of his men’s as well. In their grief, his men wanted to stone David to death. Instead of blaming God, David strengthened himself in the LORD (1 SAM. 30:6). He looked to God and took his instructions from Him. One of the reasons for the difficulties we face in life is because we are fighting a battle – a spiritual battle. Yet the war has already been won through Jesus our LORD who has overcome the world. We need to keep ourselves focused on God and His Word and allow His Holy Spirit to teach and lead us forward.
