As we continue reading in Matthew, we can see just how much impact Jesus was making. His ministry had taken off because He was doing things that only the Messiah could possibly do, and with every step of His life Jesus was fulfilling prophecy. Even the ministry of John the Baptist would have been shocking. His life was lived out not as a typical priest but as a prophet, living in the wilderness and dressing distinctly. And although there was a requirement of immersion in water for any Gentile wanting to convert to Judaism, John the Baptist taught that all Jews
must repent from sin and be baptized as well. Matthew 14 tells us of John’s confrontation with Herod the tetrarch who was having an inappropriate relationship with his brother’s wife. It was this tenacity for truth-telling that ultimately brought John down. John was beheaded for it. Even through this though, the ministry of Jesus was coming together for the good of all mankind.

Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Preparing for this specia...

Hypocrites; Matthew 22-23
In Matthew 23, Jesus uses the word hypocrite to describe the scribes and Pharisees. This was not a compliment, by any means! The word hypocrite is derived from a Greek phrase meaning to interpret or to play the part. It was often used to describe what an actor would do on stage to perform. In Jew...
