God had anointed the Tabernacle or Tent of Meeting as holy. Today as we study Numbers 4, we will read about the specific instructions given by the LORD through Moses and Aaron to the Levites, who were the selected tribe set apart by God to move and handle the holy items and to systematically move the Tabernacle. The Levites became professionals at this, of course, having moved the Tabernacle and all its sacred articles for forty years in the wilderness; roughly 29 times according to Numbers 33. Today, on this side of the cross, we know that people who dedicate their lives to Jesus Christ are anointed and separated by God, and is now where the Presence of God lives. We are God’s Tabernacle. So, in a similar way, we are God’s sacred people called to move only when permission from the LORD is given. Each of us has sacred gifts which God has given us, and we should be very careful to take care of them and use them as He directs.
