When Israel crossed over the Jordan River into the Promised Land, God instructed Joshua to have one man from each of the twelve tribes carry a stone from the river and set them up as a memorial. Once the stones were arranged, Joshua spoke to the children of Israel saying that in the generations to come when their children would ask what the stones were for, they would remember and teach how that God had let Israel cross over the Jordan on dry ground as He had also done at the Red Sea. It was God, alone, who had brought them into the Promised Land. It was God who had gone before them to conquer the nations that were fixed in the land of Canaan. As we read the Word of God, we learn this principle: God has made Himself known––we are without excuse. Scripture is like God’s memorial stones set up throughout time to remind us of who He is and what He has done, as well as what He will still do in our future!
