The Ten Commandments only appear twice in Scripture. They have been a topic of much division. By and large, our modern society claims that we have outgrown these very old ideas, but do we even know what they are? The Ten Commandments from God are recorded in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5. Many people could probably quote them, but most people haven’t taken the time to consider them Biblically.
These commandments are challenging because they deal directly with the nature of humanity: The first four deal with man and God, the next five deal with human to human relationships and the last ones deal with failures of the mind. In our culture, allegiance to God has sometimes been associated with setting up copies of the Ten Commandments on public land. Only to, in recent years, be removed so as to not offend modern sensibilities. It is an interesting commentary on where we are as a society.
