"Daniel writes about his vision of future events around 535 BC; a vision that unsettled him greatly. Daniel was a man who was dedicated to following God in a time of great rebellion. But it was in this time that our LORD spoke to him about what would happen and when it would take place in the future. The night visions or dreams that we read about in Daniel 7 speak about four great beasts or kingdoms that surface out of the face of humanity. The first beast seems to be Babylon, who was like a lion with eagle’s wings and was given the image like a man. The second beast appears to be Persia and is likened unto a bear. The three ribs in the bear’s mouth could be Egypt, Babylon, and Assyria. The third beast seems
to be Greece, and has the appearance of a leopard. And the fourth beast, which emerges out of the Roman Empire and never really dies. From this beast comes the final leader who goes against the people who love God, and who is able to dominate the world for a time.
