In the book of Proverbs, the Bible tells us that “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (PROVERBS 16:18). God’s Word also speaks about trust: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths” (PROVERBS 3:5-6). What we have pride in, and who we trust is very
important. When we aim our emotions in the wrong direction, we end up destroying ourselves. Amos spoke to the listeners of his prophecy about this issue. Our reading today comes from Amos 6, and I think you’ll find it very direct and hard, but also very true. Amos 6:14 says, “But, behold, I will raise up a nation against you, O house of Israel, says the LORD God of hosts; And they will
afflict you from the entrance of Hamath to the Valley of the Arabah.”
